Outline of Acivities-Research and Development
Research and development project incubation
JSTRA manages the technological and economical evaluation for the realization of R&D projects.
Current Research and development project (2008)
R & D for Natural Gas Hydrate Pellets Carriers
Natural Gas Hydrate (NGH : solid matter containing natural gas molecules in the molecules of H2O having like cages) is expected as a new means for natural gas transportation especially from medium to small sized gas fields, those are thought to be not suitable for commercialization under the present transportation systems, i.e. Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) carries or pipe lines. To meet these expectations, JSTRA is currently developing the NGH carrier and its system. Development of the innovative design method of propeller JSTRA develops the high efficiency propeller shape optimization program by genetic algorithm method.

Development of the innovative design method of propeller
JSTRA develops the high efficiency propeller shape optimization program by genetic algorithm method.

Development of the anti-corrosion technology
JSTRA develops the study for edge treatment of the cutting process, air-water blasting and quality control management system for painting.

Research of toughness against brittle fracture of extremely thick steel plate
JSTRA researches of the behavior of brittle fracture, arrestability and toughness of extremely thick steel plate.

Development for ship performance index in the ocean (10 mode index in the ocean)
JSTRA develops the performance index of navigation speed and fuel oil consumption in the ocean going operation of various kinds of ships. The index will be used as an international index to evaluate and reduce the fuel oil consumption of ships in the ocean.

Support for activation of technical joint studies with medium size shipyards
JSTRA supports the studies for improvement of CFD technology, structure analysis technology and the quality control technology.

The strategic view for reduction of the Green House Gas (GHG) from international shipping industry
JSTRA develops the strategic view for the frames of GHG reduction through the research of the frames real situation of international shipping industry based on the technological possibility.

Research of the emission control
JSTRA participates in the projective program of developing the emission control collaborating with cooperation with the government and associated organization.

Study of the support for "the convention of ship recycling"
JSTRA supports the formation of the regulations with the making the inventory list and the research of the dismounting yards, to make the eco-friendly, safe, accurate economical ship-recycling system.
